The President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced that the country will be moving up a notch when it comes to the restrictions which have been imposed ever since the pandemic started. A lot contributes towards which level is applicable at what time. Not so long ago the country was in level 1.
However things seem to be going in the opposite direction. The third wave of the pandemic about to hit the country, and what’s the best way to deal with such other than being well-prepared. Hence Mr President Ramaphosa took it upon himself to make sure that the country is well aware of what is needed to be done in order to survive this time around.
During his speech he mentioned a few adjustments in relation to the lockdown rules which are going to apply starting from Monday the 31st of May. See below;
The restrictions which will be introduced under the adjusted level 2 lockdown include:
1. An evening curfew between 23h00 – 04h00;
2. Non-essential establishments such as restaurants and bars must close at 22h00 to allow staff to travel before curfew;
3. All gatherings are limited to 100 people indoors and 250 people outdoors;
4. Where a venue is too small to accommodate these people, then no more than 50% of the venue capacity can be used;
5.Funerals remain restricted to 100 people, while after-funeral gatherings remain prohibited.
6.Night vigils, after- funeral gatherings and ‘after-tears’ gatherings are not allowed.
7. Masks mandatory in public places.
8. Alcohol sales permitted as normal.
9. Only permitted workers may be outside of their residence during curfew.
Basically those are the adjusted level 2 lockdown rules which are going to apply as at the 31st of May 2021.
A lockdown is a restriction policy for people or community to stay where they are, usually due to specific risks to themselves or to others if they can move and interact freely. The term “stay-at-home” or “shelter-in-place” is often used for lockdowns that affect an area, rather than specific locations.
