The video has gone on to garner millions of views and spark its own dance challenge. But Bheki Cele has now got wind of the craze.
The minister of police Bheki Cele and his team are determined to punish everyone who engages in John Vuli Gate. If you’ve so much as logged in to Twitter this December, you will have come across John Vuli Gate. The song has become a viral smash after Mapara A Jazz uploaded it to their channel just a few weeks ago.
The video has gone on to garner millions of views and spark its own dance challenge. But Bheki Cele has now got wind of the craze. The police minister is one green mask away from fulfilling his role as The Grinch over Christmas. Cele has come down hard on beachgoers in the Western Cape this week, drawing praise from some quarters.
However, others have lambasted the veteran ANC member, blaming him for ‘overzealous policing’ by the seafront. Following a tumultuous appearance in Camps Bay on Wednesday, Cele hot-footed it the other corner of South Africa.
He was in Limpopo on Thursday, addressing attendees at a law enforcement parade. He warned the crowd about the dangers of COVID-19, desperate criminals, and… performing the John Vuli Gate dance.
Cele is a tough nut to crack, and after shutting down several film crews yesterday, it seems the hatted minister is turning his attention to the younger generation. He has implored people to cancel all their plans for Christmas parties, and strangely enough, he specifically forbids anyone from engaging in a bit of John Vuli Gate.
“South Africans must learn to behave. Yes, extra care from you is expected, but South Africans are not there to break the law as they wish. We know what to do and not what to do. COVID-19 is vicious. We want to be with you for a long time. There are no parties, there is no John Vuli Gate. When people have parties, close them down,” he said.
