Four people managed to escape death when a minibus taxi they were traveling in flooded into the Duzi River.
A video of a minibus taxi getting swollen into the Duzi River in the camps drift area of Pietermaritzburg went viral on Wednesday.
Flash flooding from the heavy rains in the area caused the normally calm stream to overflow.
The video shows one passenger jumped out of the moving minibus taxi, from the window behind the driver’s seat, whilst ER24 confirmed that 4 passengers were rescued from the scene.
The SAPS’s Search and Rescue Unit managed to save two people from a taxi that was washed into the Duzi River this evening. Two others had already climbed to safety. All were treated by @ER24EMS.

ER24 spokesperson Rose Campbell said that two me jumped out of the moving vehicle whilst a man and a woman were pulled out from the reeds further down the river.
“All four were treated on the scene for minor cuts and abrasions- the lady who had been in the water longest was found to be suffering from mild hyperthermia,” says Campbell.
ER24 transported two survivors and another service on the scene transported the other two to Edendale Hospital for further care.
This is yet another incident amongst others that have been reported due to the bad weather conditions currently happening in KZN.
