Reports indicate that Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has considered former Amakhosi and Bafana Bafana midfielder Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane as a candidate for his coaching staff, leading to renewed speculation about the club’s coaching dynamics.
Letsholonyane is well-respected among Chiefs fans after a successful stint with the team during his playing days. His extensive experience at the club, along with his emerging coaching background, could present an appealing choice if the Chiefs decide to modify Da Cruz’s support team.
Da Cruz officially joined Chiefs as head coach in June, signing a two-year contract with an option for an additional year. The French coach previously held a position in the Chiefs’ technical team, returning to Naturena with assistant coach Mahmoud Abbas and sports science expert Julien Le Heran.
However, the latest news regarding Letsholonyane has introduced an intriguing twist to the narrative.
On September 24, reports confirmed that the former midfielder left Zimbabwean club FC Platinum, where he had recently been an assistant coach under Thabo Senong. He is now expected to lead Botswana’s Mochudi Centre Chiefs as their head coach.
This new appointment could complicate any potential move to Kaizer Chiefs, especially if Letsholonyane follows through with his coaching role in Botswana.
The 44-year-old has been building his coaching career since retiring, working with youth teams and national setups, and he holds a CAF A coaching license. His recent experience at Matebele FC has also elevated his status as an emerging coach.
Notably, Letsholonyane has previously voiced his thoughts on what the next coach of Chiefs should understand about the club’s culture, significance, and high expectations.
As of now, there has been no official announcement from Kaizer Chiefs regarding any approach to or appointment of Letsholonyane as Da Cruz’s assistant.
This situation leaves Chiefs fans with plenty to observe as Da Cruz continues to develop his coaching staff while Letsholonyane seems to be advancing toward a new opportunity of his own.
