Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya is the target of explosive accusations levelled by businessman Imran Bat, who claims that Sibiya was once given R1 million to have him assassinated and is reportedly connected to a crime network.
Bat has said that he is in discussions with the Madlanga Commission over the possibility of testifying against Sibiya and submitting evidence that might provide greater insight into the suspected criminal connections between police officers and those associated with organised crime.
In 2015, Bat reportedly filed a lawsuit against Sibiya, accusing her of extortion and corruption. He claims that Sibiya thereafter showed up at his residence with individuals he referred to as “bogus police” and representatives from eKurhuleni.
To back up his claims, Bat claims he has witnesses, documents, and sworn complaints. In addition, he asserts that a Pakistani mobster plotted to have Sibiya killed and that she got R1 million from the gangster.
Sibiya was further implicated by Bat in narcotics smuggling and trafficking via her ties to criminal organisations that included Pakistani and Chinese people.
He brought up the name Ali, saying that this guy was sought in South Africa for nine different crimes, including rape, extortion, abduction, and people trafficking. Bat went on to say that the individual had seven convictions under his belt when he reportedly escaped after seeking bail aid.
After submitting an application to appear before the Madlanga Commission, Bat acknowledged to eNCA reporter Pule Jones outside court that he had gotten a response and that conversations were ongoing.
According to Bat, he is still collecting evidence, such as recordings and other materials pertaining to claims against police personnel, and he plans to wait for his opportunity.
In the past, Sibiya has cast doubt on several of Bat’s assertions. He said before the Madlanga Commission that he had investigated Bat for possible human trafficking, and that the accusations provided by Bat were the basis for a fraud case that was brought against him in 2015.
The panel has not yet proven Bat’s claims to be true, and they will examine any proof he presents.
