The bail appeal involving Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibana, has been removed from the roll of the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane.
The defence representing the couple requested that the matter be removed from Wednesday’s roll. As a result, the High Court did not proceed with the hearing of their bail appeal as scheduled.
Nonyane and Tibana are facing 43 charges, including fraud, theft and money laundering. The charges stem from allegations that approximately R6 million was misappropriated from deceased estates.
The couple was previously denied bail by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on 4 September. They have remained in custody since the ruling.
Their criminal case has also been postponed to 6 November to allow investigators to continue with further investigations.
The allegations against the accused have not been proven in court, and they remain legally presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
The removal of the bail appeal from the roll means the couple’s immediate custody status remains unchanged, while the underlying criminal proceedings continue.
The matter is being closely watched given the seriousness of the charges and the substantial amount of money allegedly involved.
