“JJ Tabane And Julius Malema Can Fight AfriForum For The Bad Thing They Do, Not Me” Jacinta Says

Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has drawn a clear line over the ongoing political and public debate surrounding AfriForum, telling political commentator JJ Tabane and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema that they can take up the fight against the organisation without involving her.

Her remarks came during a conversation with Professor JJ Tabane, amid broader discussions about AfriForum and its role in South Africa’s political and social affairs. Ngobese-Zuma appeared to distance herself from the confrontation, making it clear that she does not intend to participate in the battle.

“You, JJ Tabane and Malema can fight the AfriForum about the bad things they do, not me,” Jacinta said.

Her statement has attracted attention because of the increasingly heated debate over AfriForum, particularly around issues involving race, transformation, land and the protection of minority interests in South Africa.

AfriForum, a civil rights organisation that describes itself as advocating for minority communities, has frequently found itself at odds with political parties and activists over a range of contentious national issues. The organisation has also faced strong criticism from sections of the political establishment, including the EFF.

Malema has previously been outspoken on issues involving AfriForum and has repeatedly criticised organisations and individuals he believes promote racial or exclusionary interests.

Ngobese-Zuma’s comments, however, suggest that she does not want to be drawn into that particular confrontation. Instead, she appears to be leaving the responsibility to those who have chosen to engage AfriForum directly.

The exchange with Tabane is likely to fuel further debate on the different approaches adopted by South African political figures and commentators when dealing with organisations that have become prominent voices in contentious national debates.

The remarks also underline the divisions that continue to shape public discourse around race, identity, land and political accountability in South Africa.

As the debate continues, Ngobese-Zuma’s position appears straightforward: she is unwilling to join the fight and believes those who have chosen to challenge AfriForum should handle the battle themselves.
