Mkhwanazi faces charges linked to a February 2023 fake police raid on a Killarney apartment in Johannesburg, where thieves stole semi-precious stones worth nearly R15 million.
His former girlfriend, EMPD inspector ‘Witness K,’ testified last month before the Madlanga Commission that they orchestrated the heist together while romantically involved; Mkhwanazi denies the claims.
Both are detained at Germiston police station and due in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, joining three other suspects in the case. This arrest adds to Mkhwanazi’s prior legal troubles, including bail in two unrelated cases.
