President Cyril Ramaphosa has wished the national football team well ahead of their FIFA World Cup round of 32 match against Canada in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Bafana Bafana are in high spirits after their historic progression to the knockout stage, following a 1-0 victory over South Korea in their final group match. This marks the first time since 2002 that South Africa has advanced beyond the group stage at a World Cup finals.
Ahead of the clash with co-hosts Canada at Los Angeles Stadium, Ramaphosa said that while South Africa and Canada enjoy strong relations, they have agreed to disagree on today’s result. He expressed hope that Bafana Bafana will secure a place in the last 16.
The match is scheduled for 21:00 local time. Ramaphosa said the nation stands behind the team, adding simply: We are going to win.
