Jomo Cosmos Football Club has expressed immense pride in its youth development program after four of its academy and Gauteng Development League players secured transfers to the Betway Premiership with TS Galaxy Football Club for the 2026/27 season. The club congratulated Mlondi Mcwango, Lennol Matebula, Zuko Gxabuza, and Mpho Maoke, emphasizing their journey from grassroots football to the highest level in South Africa.
Matebula, Gxabuza, and Maoke also gained crucial experience last season in the National First Division with Gomora United FC. Their competitive play is deemed an essential element in their development, equipping them for the challenges of top-tier football with TS Galaxy.
Jomo Cosmos commended the long-term dedication of both the players and coaches, pointing out that two of the players have been with the club since they were 10. The club views their journey as a robust representation of ongoing development and commitment within its academy.
The club remarked on its “commitment to nurturing young talent and facilitating pathways for aspiring footballers to realize their dreams,” highlighting its enduring philosophy of fostering future professionals through structured youth development initiatives.
Club president Jomo Sono also spoke about broader aspirations for the future of South African football, revealing that Jomo Cosmos had previously been offered R70 million to relinquish its PSL Premiership status. However, he opted against the deal to maintain focus on developing young talent. Sono believes that by doing so, he can contribute to creating a generation of skilled players who could elevate Bafana Bafana in the future.
The four academy graduates will now embark on their careers at TS Galaxy, a club recognized for providing young players with opportunities to develop and make their mark in top-flight football.
