President Cyril Ramaphosa has weighed in on the public debate surrounding the halted arrest warrants for senior Crime Intelligence officials, emphasising that justice institutions must function free from external influence.
His comments come after the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption obtained warrants for the apprehension of Crime Intelligence chief General Dumisani Khumalo and Major General Nosipho Madondo. The warrants were later suspended, sparking widespread discussion.
Speaking during the ANC’s voter registration campaign in KwaThema, Ekurhuleni, Ramaphosa urged patience and said conclusions should not be drawn before legal proceedings are concluded. He stressed the importance of respecting law enforcement processes.
Ramaphosa said the matter should be addressed in line with accepted legal frameworks and that justice institutions must fulfill their roles without interference. He declined to provide further details about the suspended warrants.
The situation involving IDAC and senior Crime Intelligence officials has become a central focus in law enforcement circles. As discussions continue, investigations and any legal actions are expected to remain under scrutiny.
