Parliament has announced the 31 members who will sit on the impeachment committee that will determine President Cyril Ramaphosa’s fate in the Phala Phala saga.

Speaker of the National Assembly Thoko Didiza announced the names on Monday, 25 May 2026. Political parties had until Friday, 22 May to submit their nominations.

The African National Congress submitted nine names and will be led by Doris Mpapane, who chairs parliament’s committee on the Presidency. Other ANC members include justice committee chairperson Xola Nqola, Soviet Lekganyane, Faith Muthambi, Boyce Maneli, Lusizo Makhubela, and Mika Mahlaule.

The Democratic Alliance will be represented by five MPs, including parliamentary leader George Michalakis, chief whip Glynnis Breytenbach, deputy chief whip Baxolile Nodada, national spokesperson Karabo Khakhau, and Nazley Sharif.

The MK Party will be led by parliamentary leader John Hlophe, chief whip Mmabatho Mokoena Zondi, and Khanyisile Litchfield Tshabalala.

The EFF will be represented by party leader Julius Malema and senior parliamentarian Omphile Maotwe.

Other parties with one representative each include the IFP, PA, Freedom Front Plus, ActionSA, African Christian Democratic Party, UDM, Rise Mzansi, Bosa, ATM, Al Jamah, National Coloured Congress, and United Africans Transformation.

The Good Party and the PAC indicated they will not participate, as each has only one MP who also serves in the executive.

It remains unclear when the committee will meet to elect a chairperson. Ramaphosa has revived a judicial review of the Section 89 Independent Panel Report, on which the impeachment inquiry is based. This follows a Constitutional Court decision earlier this month that sent the report back to parliament, allowing the impeachment process to proceed.
