Kaizer Chiefs are expected to release several senior players as the club continues its rebuild to challenge for the league title.
According to various reports, as many as seven players have contracts expiring in June. The players are Gaston Sirino, Khanyisa Mayo, Zitha Kwinika, Bruce Bvuma, Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Pule Mmodi.
While Mayo has shown some form and Mmodi remains a useful option in attack, the other five are considered most likely to leave. The club is also preparing a new contract for goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who kept 15 clean sheets in 24 league appearances this season. Petersen is also in South Africa’s preliminary World Cup squad.
Separately, legendary coach Pitso Mosimane has spoken about his connection to Kaizer Chiefs, though he did not confirm any plans to coach the club. He said football is a small world and that the Chiefs and Mosimane families are connected through former player Doctor Khumalo’s father.
