On Freedom Day, Monday, April 27, 2026, a lady is being requested to return money that was allegedly stolen from a Capitec ATM located in Tembisa Plaza. The cash was apparently withdrawn by another client and left behind by the woman.

It has been reported that the money is the property of a different Capitec customer who noticed that the monies were stolen not long after the transaction that took place at the ATM. Since then, the crime has been reported to the police, and a theft investigation has been formally begun at the Thembisa South Police Station.

It has been said that surveillance video showing a lady receiving the cash and then exiting the premises via a rear gate was recorded on camera. Additionally, it is anticipated that investigators would examine the tape as part of their attempts to identify and track down the person who was involved.

The person who is legally entitled to the money has made a request for the money to be returned in a peaceful manner, expressing the hope that the situation may be handled without increasing the number of legal issues. Members of the community have also urged the lady to conduct herself in an ethical manner and either give over the money to the authorities or get in touch with the individuals who are managing the matter.

Individuals who possess knowledge about the woman’s identity or location have been requested by the authorities to provide assistance to the researchers. For the purpose of addressing the situation, it has been asked that the lady herself voluntarily go to the police station.

Legal experts caution that stealing money that does not belong to you may still be considered theft, even if it was left behind accidently. This is because incidents involving unattended cash from an ATM are fairly commonplace.

When using automated teller machines (ATMs), residents in the region are being advised to maintain vigilance and to make certain that all transactions are completed in the correct manner before leaving the banking premises.

As investigations continue, anybody who may have information has been requested to get in touch with Thembisa Online News or to report immediately to the police with their findings.
