Kaizer Chiefs have moved to clear the air over the absence of two key players during their midweek clash against Siwelele FC, a match that ended in a frustrating 2-0 defeat for the Soweto giants at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The result not only ended Amakhosi’s seven-match unbeaten run but also raised questions among supporters and analysts over the team selection, particularly the noticeable omission of two senior squad members from the matchday lineup.

In an official clarification, the club explained that the duo were unavailable due to a combination of minor injuries and precautionary fitness management, rather than tactical exclusion or disciplinary issues as initially speculated on social media.

According to the technical team, one of the players picked up a knock during a training session earlier in the week and was assessed by the medical department, which advised against risking him for the midweek fixture. The second absentee was reportedly being managed carefully after showing signs of fatigue following a congested fixture schedule.

The club emphasised that both players remain important to the squad’s long-term plans and are expected to return to full training ahead of the weekend’s preparations, subject to final medical clearance.

Despite the clarification, the defeat has intensified scrutiny on Chiefs’ squad depth and consistency, particularly at a crucial stage of the season where points are becoming increasingly valuable. Head coach Cedric Kaze admitted after the match that the team struggled to impose themselves in the first half, a period in which Siwelele FC capitalised to take control of the encounter.

Supporters have also expressed concern over the timing of the absences, arguing that stability in selection is essential as the club continues its push to climb the league standings. However, insiders within the club insist that player workload management is a key priority as they aim to avoid further injury setbacks in the final stretch of the campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs are now expected to regroup quickly, with the technical team focusing on correcting defensive lapses and improving attacking efficiency in the final third.

With pressure mounting and expectations remaining high, Amakhosi will be hoping the return of their sidelined players brings both balance and renewed momentum as they look to bounce back strongly in their next fixture.
