Public anger and renewed calls for accountability have once again taken centre stage in South Africa as citizens, activists, and political leaders demand justice for Hillary Gardee.

The case, which shocked the nation in 2022, involved the tragic killing of Gardee, the daughter of former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) secretary-general Godrich Gardee. Her death sparked nationwide outrage and ignited widespread protests against gender-based violence.

Prominent voices, including EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, have consistently called for swift justice, stressing that the legal system must act decisively against those responsible. Ndlozi has repeatedly used his platform to highlight the case, warning against delays or leniency in prosecution.

Although law enforcement authorities confirmed arrests linked to the murder and legal proceedings are ongoing, public attention remains intense. Many South Africans view the case as symbolic of the country’s broader struggle with high rates of violence against women.

There MUST be justice for Hillary Gardee!

Civil society organisations have also weighed in, urging stronger law enforcement, faster court processes, and improved protection for vulnerable groups. They argue that the Gardee case reflects systemic issues that require urgent and sustained intervention.

The continued public pressure underscores a growing demand for transparency and accountability within the criminal justice system. For many, the pursuit of justice for Hillary Gardee is not only about one victim but also about confronting the wider crisis of gender-based violence in South Africa.

As the case progresses, citizens remain united in their call: justice must be served, and it must be seen to be done.
