Senior political figures gathered in a solemn show of unity and compassion as Jacob Zuma led African National Congress (ANC) officials in supporting Tony Yengeni during the funeral of his late sister, Hlathi Yengeni.

The memorial service, marked by heartfelt tributes and deep reflection, brought together party members, allies, and community leaders who came to stand in solidarity with the Yengeni family during their time of grief. Zuma, addressing mourners, conveyed his condolences and emphasized the importance of unity and compassion within the movement, particularly in moments of personal loss.

“Today we are reminded that beyond politics, we are bound by humanity,” Zuma said. “We stand with Comrade Yengeni not only as colleagues, but as family, sharing in his pain and honoring the life of his beloved sister.”

Hlathi Yengeni was remembered as a pillar of strength within her community, known for her humility, resilience, and unwavering commitment to family values. Speakers at the service described her as a nurturing figure who played a significant role in shaping those around her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and quiet leadership.

Tony Yengeni, visibly emotional, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from across the political spectrum. He acknowledged the presence of Zuma and other senior ANC officials, noting that their attendance brought comfort to his family during an incredibly difficult time.

“This support reminds us that we are not alone,” Yengeni said. “My sister lived a life of dignity and love, and we take solace in the memories she leaves behind.”

The gathering also highlighted the ANC’s continued emphasis on solidarity among its members, even amid ongoing political challenges. Observers noted that such moments often serve to reinforce personal bonds within the party, transcending internal divisions.

As the ceremony concluded, mourners paid their final respects, with many reflecting on the enduring impact of Hlathi Yengeni’s life. Messages of condolence continued to pour in from across the country, underscoring the widespread sympathy for the Yengeni family.

The farewell served not only as a tribute to a life well lived, but also as a reminder of the shared humanity that unites leaders and citizens alike in times of sorrow.
