South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have formally challenged Newzroom Afrika’s coverage of Nkululeko Dunga’s nomination as the Gauteng Member of the Executive Council for Finance, claiming that the news outlet is biased.
The EFF expressed their dismay on April 6, 2026, in a letter, over the fact that the station had aired many portions condemning Dunga’s appointment without providing them with an opportunity to voice their opposition. The party claims that many people, including observers and political experts, were given a chance to share their thoughts on the decision. These people said that the appointment was fabricated and called into question its legitimacy.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) claim that these kinds of talks lead to a misleading story since they are biased and full of speculation. The complaint claims that the coverage caused people to mistrust the party’s credibility and Dunga’s integrity.
The central claim in the lawsuit is that the media outlet violated rules of fairness by excluding the party’s representative from a very consequential political issue. Because of the EFF’s importance in politics, there should have been a clear opportunity for them to respond to the audience comments.
In addition to requesting that one of its members address the issues during the broadcasts, the party has also requested a right of reply that is as prominent as the original broadcasts. On top of that, they had the news outlet promise to be more inclusive and fair in their reporting in the future.
The broadcaster has chosen to remain silent on the matter, but it has ignited debates over media ethics, responsibility, and the influence of news platforms on political narratives.
