Long-time Ukhozi FM host Sipho “DJ Sgqemeza” Mbatha has now spoken out about his resignation, denying rumours that he left on his own will.In a thorough Facebook statement, Mbatha acknowledged that his contract was simply not renewed for the upcoming financial year. He co-hosted the popular Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show from 6am to 9am on weekdays alongside Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi.

Ukhozi FM has decided not to extend my contract for the next fiscal year. He stated that he respected the organization’s decision and that this was within their rights. But the veteran broadcaster made it plain that he has little regard for the organization’s management staff members who dealt with his departure the way they did. He revealed that he had gone straight to the SABC with his grievances regarding the handling of his resignation and the correspondence that followed. Mbatha also took action to debunk a story that circulated, claiming he had asked to be removed from the station so he could concentrate on his ministry. He denied the rumour completely.”I didn’t start this request, and this story makes it seem like my leaving was something we both agreed upon, which is not the case,” he said.

After much thought and discussion with his family, the host turned down an offer from Ukhozi FM for a different on-air position, the presenter said.As part of a larger shakeup, Ukhozi FM has let go of a number of long-serving personalities, including Sgqemeza. Ayanda Msweli, Lucky Nkosi (who worked for the station for more than 35 years), King Sfiso, Zeal Dladla, and Bonga “Sphongo” Dladla are among those who are leaving. The station has subsequently introduced a new lineup, which includes Velani “Vee” Mthembu, a television and radio star.DJ Sgqemeza finally speaks out about leaving Ukhozi FM, according to a report in The South African.
