Videos show the Road Traffic Management Corporation officer in South Africa refusing a R10,000 bribe from a driver whose red bakkie held cannabis worth nearly R800,000, packed in dozens of tightly wrapped bricks. The footage, first shared Thursday, drew widespread praise for Leruo’s principled stand, with users calling him a symbol of honest policing and suggesting rewards or promotions.
While some joked about the low bribe amount relative to the drugs’ value or questioned if it was for show, the incident highlights ongoing anti-corruption efforts amid Easter road safety operations.
