Wife & Lover Of Late COPE Leader Locked In Legal Dispute Over His Millions

Just a few days after the burial of the late Mosiuoa Terror Lekota, a legal battle has arisen over the inheritance of the deceased leader. Competing claims have emerged from his widow and a fellow political figure who claims that she had a personal and financial ties with the senior leader.

As reported by the Mail and Guardian, Cynthia Lekota, the widow of the late politician, has submitted an application in an attempt to obtain curatorship over the affairs of the deceased politician. This action was taken in response to concerns over the administration of his assets, with the intention of putting the estate under protective supervision.

However, Luzelle Adams, a fellow member of the Congress of the People (COPE), has filed a challenge to the application. Adams asserts that she has a direct stake in the estate, and she is challenging the application.

Adams, who was a member of parliament for COPE between the years 2009 and 2014, is said to have disclosed to the court that she and Lekota shared a property and that the two of them had a kid together. She contends that the existence of these connections enables her to have a legitimate right to take part in judicial processes concerning the administration and distribution of the estate.

Following admissions made during the course of the court procedures, the conflict has become more intense. These revelations revealed that roughly R400,000 was taken out of Lekota’s bank account. According to the allegations, the withdrawal occurred on the same day that his son, Kotane Lekota, was appointed to the position of interim curator of the estate.

On February 12, 2026, Kotane Lekota was formally designated as the interim curator, which gave him the right to take charge of his father’s financial affairs. During the time that the estate problems are being handled, his responsibilities include monitoring bank accounts, supervising investments, and protecting family assets.

Despite the fact that the circumstances surrounding the discovery are still unknown, additional worries were aroused when it was apparently discovered that a safe that was situated at one of the houses owned by Lekota had been left unlocked and empty.

It is believed that a significant portion of the late politician’s wealth is housed within the Mosiuoa Lekota Family Trust, which may make the process of establishing how assets are divided more difficult.

Following a finding by Judge Millar, who concluded that Lekota had been mentally disabled from May 2025 until his death on March 4, 2026, the curatorship process itself was carried out. A large amount of cognitive impairment and serious cerebrovascular illness were indicated in the medical reports that were presented to the court.

The allegations that Adams has made regarding a personal relationship and shared financial interests have added fresh legal complications to the processes regarding the estate, despite the fact that Cynthia Lekota continues to be accepted as the spouse by the legitimate legal system.

Considering that the parties are attempting to define their separate rights and claims, legal observers believe that the dispute has the potential to become a lengthy court struggle.

For the time being, the debate on the legacy of the late COPE leader is still being played out in court, casting a shadow over the final chapter of one of the most important political careers in South Africa.
