Early on March 17, a man believed to be a taxi boss and his wife died in a drive-by attack near the Palm taxi rank in Delft South, Cape Town. Graphic video showed their vehicle hit by dozens of bullets amid shipping containers, with police confirming gunshot wounds in a suspected taxi-related incident.
The footage fueled online arguments about safety in DA-run Cape Town, where critics highlighted gun violence while defenders pointed to national policing failures and taxi wars across South Africa.
