‘I’d rather be single’: MaKhumalo on choosing polygamy over monogamy

Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku, the fourth wife of polygamist Musa Mseleku, has opened up about her marriage, stating she has no regrets about choosing polygamy and would make the same choice again .

In a recent interview on TruFM, MaKhumalo addressed speculation about her future in the marriage amid tensions in the ninth season of Uthando Nes’thembu .

‘The Only Marriage I Know’

“I believe a lot in predestination. I don’t think anything I’ve done has been a mistake and I’m grateful for every path that I’ve walked in my journey, even in marriage,” she said .

When asked whether she would choose polygamy again, MaKhumalo was unequivocal: “I would still choose to marry Musa Mseleku tomorrow if I have to get married again — whether polygamous or monogamous marriage — because it’s the only marriage I know” .

She explained that she has no interest in exploring other relationship structures. “I can’t speak on something I don’t know and that’s why I would choose polygamy tomorrow. It’s the setup I know and I’m not longing to know any other setup; I’d rather be single” .

“This is my journey. This is my story that I cannot change. Whether it’s good or bad, I can only rewrite the story starting now,” she added .

Season 9 Tensions

The interview comes amid a turbulent ninth season of Uthando Nes’thembu, which has laid bare the growing rift between MaKhumalo and her husband . Conflicts escalated after Mseleku took a fifth wife, MaKhwela, and in a February episode, he revealed that MaKhumalo had blocked all forms of communication with him .

During a diary session, MaKhumalo opened up about hurtful comments Mseleku made during a disagreement. “He said it to my face. He said he is tired of waiting, ‘Why am I not conceiving naturally?’ This is something he said recently, the last time I spoke to him and told him he can’t sleep at my house, those are the words he uttered,” she revealed .

MaKhumalo has previously had her tubes cut off after enduring the trauma of several ectopic pregnancies .

Response to Fifth Wife Question

During the TruFM interview, MaKhumalo was asked what came to mind when the word “MaKhwela” was mentioned. She gave a dismissive response, saying, “What is that, is it a word or…What is this you said a word,” avoiding saying anything directly about Mseleku’s fifth wife .

The response sparked mixed reactions online, with some calling her “bitter” while others defended her right to privacy on the matter .

Musa’s Reaction

Following the interview, Musa Mseleku took to Instagram, sharing a photo of MaKhumalo with the caption: “I have listened to your interview” .

The post sparked further debate, with social media users offering mixed interpretations. Some found it humorous, asking why he didn’t just WhatsApp her, while others viewed it as potentially threatening .

@itzz_kayelliott commented: “I listened to your interview really sounds like a threat. He’s probably going to use his core narcissistic behaviour and use it against her” .

@Boitumelomogoe defended MaKhumalo: “She still loves and respects you. She very intelligently answered those questions to protect you. She never once bashed you or your marriage. You have yourself a diamond ku MaKhumalo” .

Despite the public tension, MaKhumalo remains firm in her commitment, telling interviewers: “Marrying Mseleku was not a mistake. I can still remarry him, and I don’t have regrets. I can’t run away, no matter what the situation is like, but Mseleku is the one that I was given by God” .

Season nine of Uthando Nes’thembu continues to air on Mzansi Magic .
