According to reports from football news outlets that are watching coaching developments, José Riveiro, who formerly served as the head coach of Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly, has emerged as a serious contender for the open head coach position at AIK Stockholm, which is a Swedish Allsvenskan club. As a result of his recent stints in Africa, the Spanish tactician is currently without a club, and he has begun to attract interest from European clubs.

The Allsvenskan club AIK, which is one of the most prestigious football clubs in Sweden, is looking to hire a new manager after experiencing a string of results that have been erratic so far. It has been claimed that the club is currently in the middle of the table, having only picked up one victory in their most recent five league matches. This has prompted the hunt for leadership that is capable of restoring stability and competitiveness. Riveiro’s profile is considered as enticing due to his past experience in Scandinavia.

Prior to earning a name for himself in African football, he was the head coach of the Finnish club Inter Turku. During his time there, he acquired recognition around the region for his strategic approach and his ability to manage teams. This experience with football in the Nordic region is seen to offer him an advantage when it comes to adjusting to the Swedish league. His career as a coach has been distinguished by both successes and failures over its entirety.

Before departing Orlando Pirates in 2025, Riveiro had a very successful time there, winning many domestic cup titles, gaining great league finishes, and directing the club in European tournaments. He finished his time with Orlando Pirates with a string of victories. In the latter part of that year, he agreed to take on a high-pressure, short-term position with the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he was placed in charge of taking the team into the FIFA Club World Cup.

On the other hand, his time was short, and it came to an end following a string of unsatisfactory results. According to reports, AIK is also taking into consideration other candidates, one of them being Olof Mellberg, a former Sweden international player. Fans and observers are keeping a close eye on Riveiro’s next move as conversations continue. Riveiro is looking to resurrect his coaching career in Europe and offer his vast skills to a club that is looking to achieve renewed success.
