Lamontville Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has praised the quality of Orlando Pirates players following his side’s heavy 5-0 defeat, singling out Deon Hotto for special recognition.

Arrows were comprehensively outplayed in a one-sided encounter that saw Pirates assert their dominance from the opening whistle. Despite the scoreline, Mngqithi remained measured in his post-match assessment, choosing instead to highlight the technical excellence and cohesion displayed by the Buccaneers.

Speaking after the match, Mngqithi acknowledged that Pirates executed their game plan to perfection, noting that their attacking fluidity and movement off the ball made them extremely difficult to contain. He pointed to Hotto as a standout performer, praising the Namibian international’s intelligence, work rate, and ability to influence the game in key areas.

“Hotto is a top player. His understanding of space and timing is exceptional,” Mngqithi remarked. “Even when you try to close him down, he finds solutions that hurt you.”

Pirates’ attacking unit proved relentless throughout the match, with their pace and precision overwhelming Arrows’ defensive structure. Mngqithi admitted that his side struggled to cope with the intensity and tactical discipline of their opponents, particularly in transition phases where Pirates capitalised effectively.

While the result marks a significant setback for Golden Arrows, Mngqithi emphasised the importance of learning from such encounters. He stressed that facing a team of Pirates’ calibre provides valuable insights into the standards required to compete at the highest level of South African football.

“We have to be honest with ourselves. This is the level we must aspire to,” he said. “There are lessons here for us, especially in how we manage key moments and maintain concentration.”

The defeat raises questions about Arrows’ defensive organisation and consistency, areas Mngqithi admitted will require urgent attention ahead of their upcoming fixtures. However, he remained optimistic about his squad’s ability to respond positively.

For Pirates, the emphatic victory reinforces their status as one of the league’s most formidable sides this season. Their blend of experience and youthful energy continues to yield impressive results, with players like Hotto leading by example.

As the season progresses, Mngqithi will be hoping his side can regroup quickly, using this difficult outing as a catalyst for improvement rather than a setback.
