MK Party MP Nomvalo Has Broken Silence Over Issues Raised by General Mkhwanazi

MK Party Member of Parliament Sibonelo Nomvalo has said that certain concerns previously raised by Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi have now been substantiated, adding momentum to the ongoing debate about leadership and accountability within South Africa’s law enforcement structures.

Nomvalo made the remarks during an interview with Sizwe Walsh-Mpofu, where he discussed recent developments involving claims and counterclaims among senior police officials. He indicated that emerging information and testimony from recent proceedings suggest that some of the issues flagged by Mkhwanazi were not without basis.

According to Nomvalo, while not every allegation has been confirmed, aspects of the evidence presented so far support parts of Mkhwanazi’s earlier warnings. He said this shifts the focus of the discussion from speculation to accountability, arguing that verified concerns must be addressed through appropriate institutional processes.

The comments come amid heightened scrutiny of the South African Police Service’s top leadership. Questions surrounding internal decision-making, operational conduct and oversight have led to increased public attention, with inquiries and reviews examining the conduct of senior officials.

Nomvalo stressed the importance of transparency and cautioned against dismissing officials who raise red flags. He argued that sidelining such voices could weaken public trust in law enforcement institutions. Instead, he called for a clear separation between political considerations and factual findings, urging authorities to act decisively where evidence confirms wrongdoing.

The MK Party has consistently advocated for stronger accountability within the security cluster. Nomvalo reiterated that credible allegations must be thoroughly investigated through legal and parliamentary channels to ensure integrity and stability within the country’s law enforcement agencies.
