The family of South African hip-hop artist Bravo Le Roux has confirmed he died by suicide and is appealing for government assistance to repatriate his body from Switzerland.

The rapper, born Sinesipho Peter, passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 30. He was known for songs rooted in township life and honest storytelling.

In a letter dated February 1, family spokesperson Gcobani Ndzongana asked the Department of International Relations and Cooperation for support in navigating the repatriation process. The family cited challenges with documentation, costs and coordination with Swiss authorities.

Subject: Request for Assistance in Repatriating the Remains of a Deceased South African Citizen from Switzerland

Dear Mr. @ClaysonMonyela ,

I am writing on behalf of the Peter family to kindly request your intervention in the repatriation of the body of their son @bravoleroux… pic.twitter.com/6cJ3X7Kz7y

The South African embassy in Bern has been unable to provide financial aid, in line with standard consular policy. Supporters have since launched a fundraising campaign to help cover costs and support the artist’s young daughter.

A memorial service is planned for February 5 at OR Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha. The family continues to await a response from the department while preparing to honour his life and legacy.
