The unveiling ceremony on Tuesday was marred by a technical glitch when the covering cloth became stuck during the countdown, briefly revealing only the word “ARENA.” Crews had to manually free the fabric to fully display the new name: “Orlando Amstel Arena.”
Some attendees superstitiously suggested the hitch signaled ancestral disapproval, though officials shrugged off the incident. One Amstel representative remarked, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity.”
The partnership is expected to bring financial support for the maintenance and operation of the historic venue. Corporate naming rights are common globally and seen as a step toward commercial sustainability for South African football.
