Deputy President Mashatile Confronted As Angry North West Residents Shout ‘Stop Lying To Us’

During a recent visit by Deputy President Paul Mashatile, residents of the Northwest openly expressed their dissatisfaction with the ANC, voicing concerns over unfulfilled commitments they assert have not been honoured. When community members approached ANC leaders, some shouted, “Stop deceiving us!” and demanded accountability for the province’s ongoing issues; the meeting quickly became tense.

Several concerns were raised with local residents, including substandard service delivery, insufficient infrastructure, and elevated unemployment rates. Despite numerous assurances from the ruling party that improvements are underway, many individuals maintain that they continue to feel neglected. Residents exhorted Mashatile and other party members to focus on delivering tangible results rather than making insubstantial promises during the encounter.

Eyewitnesses reported that residents expressed particular concern regarding water shortages, power outages, and insufficient road maintenance. Some residents expressed their frustration and feelings of abandonment caused by years of neglect by the local government authorities. The frustration was evident as individuals sought explanations for the slow progress of development and the disregard of essential requirements.A community member stated, “The public is weary of hearing the same promises with each election cycle.” We seek actions, not mere promises. Please cease misleading us. Others conveyed comparable sentiments, articulating their dissatisfaction with ANC representatives across all levels of government, from local to national.

Authorities, such as Mashatile, endeavoured to engage with the local community, attentively listening to their concerns and committing to escalate their issues to the relevant agencies. However, some members of the community remained sceptical, asserting that they had heard similar assurances in the past without witnessing significant progress.

The incident highlights the growing discontent among residents in specific regions of the Northwest, where ongoing challenges in service delivery persistently evoke public indignation. According to experts, these direct confrontations reflect a broader sense of impatience with political leaders and a demand for accountability, particularly in regions facing social and economic difficulties.

The visit underscores the importance of translating political commitments into tangible measures, as evidenced by the perspectives of the local residents. The criticisms directed at the ANC and its leadership serve as a reminder that communities, especially those in provinces experiencing persistent challenges, seek substantive change rather than superficial assurances.
