South African radio stations wrapped up 2025 by announcing their Song of the Year winners, highlighting the diversity and regional flavor of the country’s music scene.

Metro FM crowned Isaka’s “Ciza,” an Afro-pop track celebrated for its soulful melody and emotional lyrics.

Ukhozi FM chose “Uzoncengwa Unyoko” by maskandi star Umafikizolo, a viral hit that blended traditional Zulu sounds with modern appeal.

Thobela FM selected “Rato Laka” by controversial rapper Shebeshxt, a street anthem popular in Limpopo despite the artist’s ongoing legal troubles.

Gagasi FM honored DJ Tira’s dance-floor hit “Awungazi,” a kwaito and amapiano fusion that dominated the station’s urban playlist.

YFM, Motsweding FM, and Kaya FM all named “Shela” by Sam Deep featuring Boohle as their top song, making it the most widely honored track across the country’s radio landscape.

Umhlobo Wenene FM awarded “Umalume” by Mr Vee Sholo, a favorite among its Xhosa-speaking listeners.

The selections reflect both national trends—like the widespread success of “Shela”—and strong regional identities, showcasing the vibrant variety of South African music.
