Massive listener interest in Gagasi FM’s New Year’s Eve crossover show caused the station’s streaming app to crash, leaving many fans unable to tune in live.
The highly anticipated broadcast was hosted by former Ukhozi FM stars Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya and Selbeyonce. The surge in online traffic overwhelmed the app just as the show began at 9 p.m.
In a statement, the station apologized for the technical issue and directed listeners to its Facebook livestream while engineers worked to restore the app.
The special show later selected DJ Tira’s hit “Awungazi” as the official song to usher in 2026. DJ Tira thanked supporters shortly after midnight in a social media post.
The crossover show had initially been expected to also include breakfast host Felix Hlophe, who was on leave attending to personal matters.
