The anticipated appearance of General Shadrack Sibiya before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has been postponed, following reports that the former military officer fell ill. His testimony, originally scheduled for this week, has now been deferred to a later date.

The Madlanga Commission, established to investigate alleged misconduct and systemic issues within the country’s defense and security structures, had listed General Sibiya as a key witness. His insights were expected to shed light on internal operations and decision-making processes.

Commission spokesperson Thandi Maseko confirmed the delay, stating that the health of witnesses is a priority and that alternative arrangements will be communicated once General Sibiya is fit to testify. “The commission remains committed to a thorough and transparent process. We will ensure that General Sibiya’s testimony is heard at the earliest possible opportunity,” Maseko said.

Observers note that the postponement may impact the commission’s schedule, though officials emphasize that investigations will continue uninterrupted with other witnesses and submissions. Legal analysts highlight that delays in high-profile testimonies are not uncommon, especially when health concerns arise, and caution against drawing immediate conclusions about the implications of the deferment.

The Madlanga Commission, which has already received extensive testimony from current and former officials, continues to play a pivotal role in addressing public concerns about accountability and governance within the country’s security institutions.
