The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial was adjourned on Tuesday after three men were removed from the public gallery of the Pretoria High Court.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe stated that a case of conspiracy to commit murder has been opened and is under investigation. According to Mathe, police intelligence indicated that a group of individuals had been attending the trial with the intention of eliminating key players on the state’s side.
The three men were taken in for questioning and profiling. No arrests have been made as yet, and investigations are ongoing. Police have increased security around the trial and say intelligence operations are on high alert.
The trial will resume on Wednesday to allow legal teams to address the new developments.
