In a significant development for the MK Party (MKP), former parliamentary representative Lucky Montana officially stepped down from his role as a Member of Parliament, effective Monday, 1 December 2025.

Montana, who previously served as CEO of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) before venturing into politics, made the announcement via his X account. He revealed that his resignation notice had been submitted to party leadership as far back as 30 August 2025.

The MK Party has formally accepted Montana’s resignation. In an official statement, spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela lauded Montana’s tenure in Parliament, highlighting his “steadfast objectivity, constructive guidance and principled contributions.” The remarks suggest that his departure was voluntary and amicable, rather than the result of internal pressure or conflict.

Montana’s exit follows closely on the heels of another high-profile departure from the party’s parliamentary ranks, with MP Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla vacating her National Assembly seat just days earlier. These consecutive resignations have sparked speculation about potential instability and internal tensions within the MKP’s parliamentary caucus.

Despite stepping down as an MP, Montana has affirmed that he remains a member of the MK Party. Party officials have expressed confidence that he will continue to advance the MKP’s broader political and social objectives outside of Parliament.

Political analysts note that the resignation of yet another senior figure adds to a growing sense of upheaval within the party and could foreshadow further reconfigurations ahead of next year’s elections. As the MKP navigates this period of transition, the moves of Montana and other senior figures will likely shape both the party’s strategy and public perception in the months to come.
