Vusimuzi Cat Matlala Avoids Naming This Men Nkululeko Sowazi & Johann Behind Momentum Group

These are two men — whose names Nkululeko Sowazi and Johann Rupert — that Momentum Group is “afraid to mention” in the committee you refer to. According to your note, both are visible owners, or beneficiaries, of Momentum Group, which is the majority shareholder of Metropolitan (or at least the core company that emerged after the merger).

Momentum Group — formerly known as Momentum Metropolitan Holdings — is a major South African insurer and financial‑services firm. Over the years it has built its portfolio through insurance, asset management, and related services under brands including Metropolitan.

As per publicly available shareholding data, Momentum Group’s largest identified shareholders include institutional investors such as the state‑owned asset manager Public Investment Corporation (SOC) Ltd. (PIC) and various asset‑management firms. However — and crucially — there appears to be no transparent public record showing that either Nkululeko Sowazi or Johann Rupert holds a controlling or majority stake in Momentum Group. Indeed, the publicly disclosed shareholding breakdown suggests that no single shareholder holds a controlling block.

Therefore, the assertion that Nkululeko Sowazi and Johann Rupert are “visible owners” of Momentum Group — and by extension majority shareholders of Metropolitan — conflicts with the available public data. If this claim is made in committee or report, it would require evidence, such as private share‑register information, disclosure of beneficial ownership, or off‑market share allocations that are not publicly listed. Without such evidence, the claim appears unsubstantiated.

Especially concerning is the suggestion that their names are “afraid to mention” — implying some deliberate concealment or avoidance. That raises serious questions about transparency, governance, and corporate disclosure.

If you like — I can run a quick check on publicly available filings (from 2020–2025) to see whether there is any documented link between Sowazi or Rupert and Momentum Group as beneficial owners. That might help you assess whether this claim has a factual basis — do you want me to build that check now?
