In the midst of a heated discussion among ANC members, President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken out. After learning that certain party members were plotting his ouster behind his back, he spoke out loudly. He expressed his desire for transparency, saying that he was sick of behind-the-scenes discussions and strategising. He warned the committee that he would not tolerate anyone who wanted him to resign in secrecy.

Not even in small groups or during private conversations, he warned them. If they really want him to step down, they need to stand up during the meeting and specify when they want him to leave. His message was straightforward: those who wish to remove him from the ANC leadership position should have the guts to publicly state their desire to do so. He warned them against plotting secretly or behind his back.

According to him, the party becomes feeble and distrustful as a result of this attitude. Meeting insiders believe Ramaphosa came across as really determined. He was keen for everyone to know that he relishes a challenge. By challenging them to choose a date, he was indicating his willingness to confront any group that believes they can displace him.

His candour startled some of his party members. They were taken aback by his audacious and forceful speech. Some think he said that to encourage the party to end its internal strife. Instead of hiding, he encourages his opponents to come out in full force. Also, the meeting became really emotional due to his remarks.

Since it demands honesty from everyone, some think his challenge was a good one. Still others worry it will just exacerbate tensions inside the ANC. It is clear from Ramaphosa’s choice to speak publicly that he is sick of underhanded attacks and hidden animosities. Having things out in the open is important to him. His detractors are now feeling the heat from his firm message.

The time has come for them to be forthright and specify the exact day they would like him to depart if they truly desire his departure. Since Ramaphosa has made it plain that he is not stepping down due to rumours or hidden agendas, the ANC is now waiting to observe who will answer to his challenge. His enemies should either cease conspiring or stand up bravely, in his opinion.
