ANC Veterans League Warns Against Secret Efforts To Oust Ramaphosa

Snuki Zikalala, leader of the ANC Veterans League, has raised concerns over a covert faction within the party allegedly plotting to remove President Cyril Ramaphosa before the end of his term. According to Zikalala, these individuals are conducting secretive activities, including private communications, clandestine meetings, and subtle attempts to sway others against the president.

Zikalala emphasized that the Veterans League will not support such actions, describing them as divisive and detrimental to the party. He insisted that Ramaphosa should be allowed to serve his full term without interference, and anyone attempting to disrupt this is acting against the core values of the ANC.

He referred to the alleged plotters as “dark forces” and stated that the Veterans League would distance itself from their schemes. Zikalala noted that these forces aim to create instability and discord within the party, warning that their actions undermine unity.

The controversy emerged after a letter circulated on an Eastern Cape ANC WhatsApp group, suggesting the removal of the current national executive committee and its replacement with a team led by former president Thabo Mbeki. The letter later surfaced at a Veterans League educational event attended by Mbeki. While some speculated that this event could be a maneuver against Ramaphosa, Zikalala rejected these claims, clarifying that the League is not involved in any secret plots.

He also pointed out that the letter’s author remains unknown and urged them to come forward to explain their intentions. Zikalala reiterated that the Veterans League would never support any efforts that threaten the president’s leadership.

Addressing rumors that Ramaphosa might resign after South Africa’s G20 presidency, Zikalala confirmed that the president has made no such announcement and condemned the spread of these claims as attempts to create unnecessary tension.

Zikalala further clarified that there is no conflict between Ramaphosa and Mbeki, noting that Mbeki continues to contribute constructively in party discussions. He stressed that legitimate debate on party issues should not be confused with efforts to undermine leadership.

On the topic of future ANC leadership, Zikalala highlighted the importance of democratic principles, affirming that anyone wishing to contest positions should be free to campaign openly.

In conclusion, Zikalala suggested the letter likely came from a single undisclosed individual and called on them to reveal themselves. He reiterated that the Veterans League will consistently oppose secret agendas and work to maintain unity within the ANC.
