Brown Mogotsi, a former contact agent for SAPS crime intelligence, has presented a significant allegation to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He claims that former Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa removed Lt. Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi from his post due to suspicions that Mkhwanazi might have been affiliated with the CIA.

Mogotsi stated that he had multiple conversations with Mthethwa over the years, including discussions about a trip he took to Kenya for intelligence-related purposes. Mogotsi mentioned that he personally funded this trip with approximately R15,000 of his own money and did not seek reimbursement, viewing it as his patriotic duty.

During one of these conversations, Mogotsi alleges that Mthethwa explicitly told him that Mkhwanazi was dismissed as Acting National Commissioner of Police because of suspicions that he might be a CIA agent. Mogotsi further asserted that Mthethwa had indicated his willingness to appear before the commission to provide further details regarding this decision.

However, the Madlanga Commission has stated that the late Nathi Mthethwa never contacted them nor expressed a desire to testify. Consequently, the commission is unable to confirm whether Mthethwa had indeed intended to testify or if he would have corroborated the statements Mogotsi attributed to him.

These recent allegations add to the string of significant claims that have emerged during Mogotsi’s testimony, encompassing intelligence operations, political connections, and long-standing friction within South Africa’s policing structures.

The commission continues its proceedings as the nation awaits further clarification on these serious accusations.
