Mbalula Warns Factions: Says ANC NGC Will Not Be Used To Remove Ramaphosa Or Any Leaders

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has firmly stated that the party’s National General Council (NGC) will not be used as a tool to remove ANC leaders, including President Cyril Ramaphosa. Mbalula’s remarks come amid growing speculation and internal pressure for leadership changes within the ANC, especially following calls from some members and protestors for Ramaphosa and others named in the Madlanga Commission to step down.

Mbalula emphasized that the NGC is not a forum for orchestrating leadership recalls or for advancing personal agendas. He warned against attempts to abuse the process, saying such moves would undermine the party’s unity and stability. His statement is meant to reassure party members and the public that the ANC remains committed to following its established procedures and respecting the mandate of elected officials.

The upcoming NGC, scheduled for December2025, is expected to focus on key party matters and the challenges facing the country, not on leadership changes. Mbalula’s position reflects the official stance that the current NEC, elected in December2022, will serve its full term until December2027, with Ramaphosa as president unless he chooses to step down or is challenged through proper party processes.

By making this clear, Mbalula is attempting to shut down rumors and prevent any attempts to destabilize the party ahead of the NGC. He reiterated that the ANC must remain focused on its mission and avoid internal power struggles that could weaken its ability to govern and serve the people.
