Cedrick Nkabinde, the chief of staff for suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, has responded to claims by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that he was unqualified for his position.

Testifying at a parliamentary inquiry, Nkabinde dismissed Mkhwanazi’s statements, suggesting the commissioner was angry because Nkabinde had recorded a conversation in which Mkhwanazi allegedly threatened Minister Mchunu.

Nkabinde detailed his qualifications, including a BTech degree in policing and extensive experience as a detective and trainer. He noted that Mkhwanazi had previously helped him secure a private sector job as head of forensics, indicating the commissioner was aware of his credentials.

The testimony comes amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption within the criminal justice system.
