James Stuart Scharnick is expected to file a criminal case against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo in Pretoria on Wednesday. The move follows General Khumalo’s testimony at the Madlanga Commission last week.
During his testimony, Khumalo stated that a vehicle used by suspended police official Shadrack Sibiya was registered under Scharnick’s name. Khumalo also told the commission that Scharnick has a criminal record, claiming he faced 34 criminal charges, with 18 resulting in convictions.
Scharnick is now seeking to lay charges of perjury and defamation against the general, alleging that these statements given under oath are false and have damaged his reputation.
