South Africa’s political landscape witnessed another tumultuous week marked by shocking violence, party instability, and growing legal drama.

Mogotsi Cheats Death in Alleged Assassination Attempt

Businessman and political activist Tebogo Mogotsi narrowly escaped death after his vehicle was riddled with 11 bullets in what police suspect was a targeted hit in Midrand on Wednesday night. Mogotsi, who sustained minor injuries, is said to be cooperating with investigators as speculation mounts over the motive behind the attack. Police confirmed that no arrests have been made, but ballistic experts have been deployed to trace the weapons used.

MK Party’s Leadership Turmoil Deepens

Meanwhile, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party continues to grapple with internal fractures as yet another senior leader was reportedly suspended amid factional battles. The party’s top brass has seen a revolving door of resignations, reinstatements, and disputes over authority — casting doubt on its readiness ahead of next year’s elections. Analysts warn that the leadership chaos could erode voter confidence if stability is not restored soon.

Gigaba Back in the Spotlight

Former Cabinet Minister Malusi Gigaba has been summoned to appear before the Independent Directorate on Anti-Corruption (IDAC) over fresh allegations related to his time in public office. Sources suggest the probe may reopen questions about procurement irregularities linked to state entities during his tenure. Gigaba’s representatives say he is “ready to cooperate fully” and maintains his innocence.

For a deeper dive into these and other developing stories, catch this week’s full recap on The Week That Was.
