MK Party chief whip Colleen Makhubele is facing internal allegations that she attempted to secure a contract worth R1.8 million per year for a company connected to her partner. An internal party report also states she tried to get a job for him as her advisor.

The report, from the party’s group of whips, claims Makhubele drafted an agreement to pay the company, BillionkeyBK, over R185,000 per month for unspecified services. The proposed contract was backdated to July 2025 but was never signed or paid out after another senior official, John Hlophe, refused to approve it.

The report described the situation as a “grave conflict of interest.” It found that no one in the party could determine how the large fee was calculated or what services the company would provide.

Following these allegations, the whips recommended that Makhubele be suspended. She was temporarily replaced, but the party’s top leadership later reversed that decision and reinstated her, instead suspending Hlophe.

An MK Party spokesperson said the report has not been formally tabled with the party’s top officials yet and that a meeting is still due to be held. Makhubele and the director of the company in question did not respond to requests for comment.
