Former Miss South Africa and media mogul Basetsana Kumalo turned heads at the 2025 Miss South Africa pageant as she arrived in dazzling style — this time accompanied by her equally elegant daughter, Bontle Khumalo, marking a powerful generational moment in South Africa’s pageant history.
The mother-daughter duo graced the red carpet at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, exuding class, poise, and the unmistakable aura of South African royalty. Basetsana, who won the Miss South Africa crown in 1994 and went on to become one of the country’s most celebrated businesswomen and philanthropists, looked radiant in a gold-embroidered gown that paid homage to her reign three decades ago.
Bontle, who made her high-profile debut at the event, stunned in a sleek white satin dress with crystal detailing — a modern nod to her mother’s timeless elegance. Her confident presence sparked a social media frenzy, with fans praising her natural charm and calling her “a queen in the making.”
Speaking briefly on the red carpet, Basetsana expressed heartfelt pride in seeing the Miss SA legacy evolve over the years. “It’s beautiful to witness how this platform continues to empower young women. Being here with my daughter tonight reminds me of the power of legacy — not just in beauty, but in purpose and service,” she said.
The glamorous evening was a celebration of empowerment and transformation, with notable guests including former winners like Zozibini Tunzi and Ndavi Nokeri. The event, themed “Crowning the Future,” highlighted South Africa’s diverse beauty and the growing influence of women leaders shaped by the Miss SA platform.
Fans online couldn’t help but compare Bontle’s grace and demeanor to her mother’s early pageant days. “Basetsana walked so Bontle could glide,” one user commented, while another wrote, “The Khumalo legacy is untouchable — elegance clearly runs in the family.”
As cameras flashed and applause echoed through the arena, one thing was clear — Basetsana Khumalo’s legacy continues not just in business and philanthropy, but in the radiant confidence of her daughter, Bontle, who seems destined to carry the torch of South African excellence forward.
