Following Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema’s request that businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala be called to testify, Parliament broke out into chaos. while simultaneously preventing a top Crime Intelligence (CI) general from taking part in an ad hoc committee because of suspected political prejudice.

In the midst of a heated session, Malema demanded that Matlala, who has been repeatedly implicated in major corruption investigations, be brought before parliamentarians right away to answer for his actions. He claimed that certain members of parliament were shielding Matlala and insisted that everyone should be treated equally under the law.

“Matlala has to come here and give an explanation. ” Malema’s voice boomed throughout the room, creating waves of tension. He is unable to seek refuge in his friends or political ties.

However, there was disagreement when he declined the participation of a CI general who had lately gone to an EFF birthday party. Malema claimed that the officer’s presence at a political gathering undermined his impartiality and would jeopardize the credibility of the investigation.

“In these investigations, you cannot have someone who attends political celebrations acting as an independent officer. Infiltration, not oversight, is what it is,” he said.

Malema was charged with hypocrisy by opposition MPs, who claimed he was selectively enforcing accountability to advance his own agenda. ANC officials dismissed the action as “political theatre,” but Democratic Alliance members questioned whether Malema was trying to control who should be subject to inspection.

Malema, according to one senior MP, was “trying to play crusader of justice while shielding his allies from exposure. ”

In the past, Matlala has been implicated in corruption testimonies, notably before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, and he is well-known as “Cat” in political and commercial spheres. Public demands for Matlala’s interrogation were stoked by a recent claim from a secret witness that he helped make dubious payments to a business connected to an ANC official.

Malema’s effort to ban the CI general may result in a procedural challenge, according to legal experts, because parliamentary rules call for fairness and consistency in oversight procedures. They brought out the significant mistrust between politicians and law enforcement officials that the episode brought to light.

As tensions rise, everyone’s attention is focused on the upcoming committee meeting, where the fight over who is subject to investigation and who is not will take place. is expected to increase even more.
