AfriForum leader Kallie Kriel has claimed that President Cyril Ramaphosa admitted under oath that Section 19 of the new Expropriation Act is unconstitutional, alleging it allows landowners to challenge the act.

Kriel further linked the controversy to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of punitive measures against South Africa, claiming Ramaphosa’s signing of the Act triggered the move a claim that remains unverified.

In court documents, Ramaphosa reportedly described Section 19 as “unworkable,” though government has not confirmed any admission that the law is unconstitutional.

Kriel made the statement on social media as part of AfriForum’s ongoing legal challenge to the Expropriation Act. He accused Ramaphosa and the ANC of misleading the public by dismissing AfriForum’s warnings about the Act’s alleged unconstitutionality as “disinformation.”
