The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a recall of more than 100 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in South Africa after safety concerns were identified in certain models.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the commission confirmed that the recall affects two models:
•4 units of the EQE-295
•98 units of the GLC-254
According to the NCC, the steering wheels in the affected vehicles do not meet safety specifications.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba explained that the bolting of the steering coupling may not comply with required standards, creating a potential risk.
“It basically means that the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the steering rack might loosen over time. And of course, when that happens, it might actually lead to a loss of the vehicle’s steerability, and of course, increasing the risk of an accident,” Ntaba said.
The commission has urged all affected consumers to contact their nearest Mercedes-Benz dealership immediately for inspection and corrective action.
