Former ANC leader Frank Chikane has issued a stern warning against criminality and corruption within the ruling party, speaking at the ANC Councillors event at FNB Stadium.

“We must never allow our country to reach a point where it is destroyed and run by criminals, like we have seen in Haiti. Criminals must not find a home or be welcomed within the ANC,” Chikane declared.

He cautioned that no individuals should be allowed to obstruct service delivery, stressing that communities cannot be held hostage by corrupt practices.

Chikane revealed disturbing allegations that in Soweto, some Eskom employees are allegedly paid by community members to remove transformers from one township and install them in another.

He also criticised what he described as the ANC’s informal practice of awarding “Tender for Christmas”, insisting that such corruption must come to an end.

Chikane concluded by urging ANC councillors to remain rooted among communities, reminding them that service delivery is one of the most urgent issues facing South Africans today.
