Floyd Shivambu, leader of the newly formed Afrika Mayibuye Movement (AMM), has stated that his party will not focus on his former political homes, the EFF and the MK Party. He argued that these groups represent only a small share of voters and do not deserve his movement’s attention.
The party’s logo, which features a red, black, and green flag with a map of Africa, a spear, and a pen, has drawn comments on social media for its similarity to the EFF’s symbol.
“We are not going to give our attention, none whatsoever to the EFF the MK Party or anything else, they represent a far much more smaller number of even those who are registered to vote in South Africa” Africa Mayibuye Movement President Floyd Shivambu

Shivambu made these comments at the official launch of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement on September 5, 2025. He emphasized that the party’s focus will be on the interests of South Africans, not on engaging in personality-driven politics.
The party has positioned itself as an alternative that rejects corruption, ill-discipline, and cult-like politics within other organizations. The AMM has announced its intention to contest every ward and municipality in the upcoming local government elections.
