Shivambu’s Mayibuye Movement Rejects ‘Breakaway’ Label, Eyes Political Dominance

Africa Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu has firmly dismissed claims that his organization stems from existing political parties, positioning it instead as an independent force with ambitions to outgrow South Africa’s major political players.

Speaking at a recent consultation meeting, Shivambu clarified: *”This is not an offshoot of MK, the EFF or ANC – we’re building something bigger than all of them.”* His comments come amid speculation about the movement’s composition, with reports suggesting it attracts disaffected members from across the political spectrum.

The former EFF deputy president emphasized inclusivity, welcoming supporters from all parties including the ANC, EFF, MK and even the DA. Political analysts view this as a strategic play to capitalize on widespread voter disillusionment with established parties, particularly as the ANC’s support wanes and newer formations face internal challenges.

While still in its early stages, the Mayibuye Movement is positioning itself as a unifying alternative in South Africa’s fractious political landscape. Shivambu’s bold claims will face their first real test as the organization moves from rhetoric to practical mobilization in coming months.
